“She’s always been an angel, now she has her wings.”

On May 19, 2008, God opened the gates of Heaven and welcomed our angel Home, as Alba Ruth Sedlock, 79, of Hico entered into eternal life with her loving family at her side.

Born September 3, 1928, Ruth was the daughter of the late Jack and Myrtle Simms Grimmett.

Until she lost her vision due to complications from diabetes, she enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, quilting, bowling, watching WVU and her Washington Redskins play football and visiting friends and family. She valued her family above all else and treasured gathering everyone at her house to cook family Sunday dinners. Even after losing her vision, she remained positive and cheerful, which made her even more an inspiration to all who knew her. Ruth was a strong, loving and courageous woman who faced all of life’s challenges with grace & dignity. She touched the lives of so many people in so many ways.

Welcoming her home with open arms are her devoted husband of 41 years, Thomas Sedlock, infant daughters Myrtle Belle and Dorothy Rae Sedlock, foster son Freddy Frye, brothers Paul and Carl Grimmett, sister Novella Clendennin, great granddaughter Casey Dempsey, grand-son-in-law Colby Jackson and special companion Ernest French.

“ All that I am or ever hope to be I owe to my mother.” Those she has loved, guided and encouraged and who are forever grateful to have such an angel to call mother are son Andrew Sedlock and wife Pat, daughters Barbara Isaacs and husband Pat, Bonnie Stull and husband Gary all of Hico and foster son Teddy Frye of Gallipolis, Ohio.

“Grandmothers and roses are much the same, each are God’s masterpieces with different names” Grandchildren left to cherish precious memories of their “Mimi” include Tammy Isaacs, Tara Jackson, Mandy Dempsey and husband Ryan, Staci Keeney and husband Brian, Stephanie Isaacs and companion Howard Karnes, A.J. Sedlock and companion Adrian Wills, Tommy Stull, Ryan, Christian and Patience Isaacs; Alyssia, Avina and Tyler Sedlock; Cyrus, Brody, Ryleigh and Kyleigh Jackson; Colin, Emily, Alex and Aaron Dempsey; Savannah and Michael Keeney and Alyssa Hatcher.

“A sister is a best friend forever.” Siblings who will dearly miss their best friend are Naomi Wood of Pontiac Michigan, Kathryn Wood of Hico, Orville Grimmett and wife Camella of Rainelle and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends including special friend, Ruth Walker.

A celebration of eternal life will be held Thursday May 22, 2008 at 2 p.m., at Sunday Road Baptist Church at Hico, with Rev. Allen Donaldson and Rev. David Sneed officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum in Victor.

Pallbearers will be Andrew and A.J. Sedlock, Pat Isaacs, Gary and Tommy Stull, Ryan Dempsey and Brian Kenney, Howard Karnes and Ryan Isaacs.

Friends may visit with the family today, Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Born Aug. 27, 1934, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Roy N. and Lonnie R. Grimmett Bennett.

Lucille retired from the Nu-Way Cleaners in 1998. She enjoyed camping, sewing and cooking dinners for her family after church on Sundays and holidays. She was of the Baptist faith.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Robert Chewning, on Nov. 17, 1999, and a brother, Ashley Bennett, on Nov. 15, 1999.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Lacy “Pete” Chewning; three sons, Darrell Chewning and wife, Cassie, of Tug Creek, Harold Chewning and companion, Kay Hall, of Flat Top and David Chewning and companion, Patty Yopp, of Lowell; two daughters, Linda Brandon and husband, Mike, and Brenda Cole, all of Tug Creek; daughter-in-law, Nancy Chewning of Tug Creek; two brothers, William Fox and wife, Nancy, of Germantown, Ohio, and Roy Bennett and wife, Freda, of Middletown, Ohio; six sisters, Mary Madline Meadows and Glenna Parker, both of Hinton, Loraine Collins of Middletown, Josie Farley and husband, Ray, of Peebles, Ohio, Helen Hall and husband, Bert, of Trenton, Ohio, and Irene Tincher of Greensboro, N.C; grandchildren, Michelle Merrill, whom she reared, and her husband, Adam, of Judson, Rhonda Yopp and husband, Michael, of Lowell, Donna Boone and husband, Shane, of Alderson, Teresa Cole of Hilldale, Alicia Zimmerman and Jason Chewning of Tug Creek, Derrick Chewning, Judson Yopp of Lowell, Laura St. Clair and husband, Shane, of Jumping Branch, Renae Jones and husband, Geoff, of Forest Hill and Craig Brandon of Tug Creek; great-grandchildren, Shawn and Ericia Merrill, Rochelle, Katelyn and Hayley Yopp, Caleb, Casey and Cara Boone, Colton Zimmerman, Carley and Matthew St. Clair, Logan, Levi and Lawson Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Harry Pilkington officiating. Burial will follow in Chewning Family Cemetery, Tug Creek.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
