Anna Mabel Burgess, 98, of Fayetteville passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Mary’s Garden in Oak Hill. Born on October 20, 2018 at Burke, WV; she was the daughter of the late Charles and Inez Mabel Nuce Scott. Mrs. Burgess was a member of Fayetteville Emmanuel Baptist Church. She worked as a telephone operator for eight years in Elkton, MD and another six years in Beckley for C&P Telephone Company. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Burgess; brothers: Charles G. Scott, James LeRoy Scott, and William Harold Scott; and sisters: Bertha Anderson, Goldie Parker, and Ida Marie Scott. Survivors include her son: David Ray Scott of Cle Elum, Washington and his three sons: James, Joseph, and Jeffrey; and sister: Mary Helen Marra. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Mack Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.
