James Lewis Alderson1
M, #2561, b. 13 Sep 1857, d. 1 Apr 1924
| Biography* | | "A native of Summers County, James L. Alderson 1857-1924 married in Summers County 1884 to Emma F. Burdette 1865-1920, daughter of George Washington and Susan Longanacre Burdette. They are both buried at Griffith Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Their children were John (Bub), Lawrence, Ira, Herschel, Gary [Cary], Effie and Daisy. James helped to build the first church on Griffith Creek. After it burnt in 1901, he was on the building committee, again, building where the present church stands. He also was appointed as one of the delegates to help Clayton when they decided to build a church. When threshing time came, Jim would take his sons, Lawrence and Bub with the team of horses and go up and down the valley between Hinton and Alderson. Later Jim bought the first steam engine in that area. What a sight it must have been to see, the teams of horses, threshers, water wagon and steam engine...In 1921, at the age of 64, Jim sold the steam engine."
