The evidence of the marriage of Thomas Alderson and Mary Jane (--?--) is found in the supplemental inventory of Thomas Alderson dated January 1825, in which it says "The administrator produced to me receipts from Mary Jane Alderson the widow of said Thomas Alderson deceased for the distribution of the above sum of $587.27 & from Joseph Alderson guardian of the children of Thomas Alderson deceased".1

Bradley his guardian ad litem, and exhibits filed, and was argued by counsel: and the subpoena awarded in this cause being returned executed more than four months ago on John Jessee and wife, and the still failing to appear and answer the complainants' bill, the same is therefore as to them taken for confessed; besides the said deft John Jessee appeared in person and consented to this decree. On consideration whereof, it is adjudged ordered & decreed, that James P. Carrell, Edward D. Kernan and Thomas Dickenson be, and they are hereby appointed Commission to divide and make partition of the lots in the bill mentioned, assigning one entire half of all the said lots to the complainant Thomas Creigh, one half of the remaining half to the complainant Louisa C. Aston formerly Louisa C. Alderson daughter of the said Thomas Alderson deceased, and now the wife of Samuel W. Aston, and the remaining half to Thomas C. Alderson infant son of Thomas Alderson deceased. And also, that they lay off and assign to Mary Jessee wife of defendant John Jessee formerly the widow of Thomas Alderson deceased one third of one half as aforesaid of the said lots, for her dower, and that they report their proceedings to the next term of this Court, and this cause is till then continued.2

Joined the Methodist Church about 1841 or 42 -- professed religion about '45 and on Friday Morning the 23rd of April left the confines of earth for the felicities of heaven. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Colonial Church, 71st & Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS; burial will be private. Donations may be made to University of Kansas Endowment Association or Johnson County Developmental Supports.

Mr. Hemphill was born May 4, 1916, in Reno, KS, to Joseph and Barbara Hemphill. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1939, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a home builder and real estate appraiser in Johnson County for many years, and a member of the American Institute or Real Estate Appraisers. Mr. Hemphill was the former mayor of Countryside, KS. He was a member of the Johnson County Planning Commission, a member and secretary of the Midwestern Area Regional Council, and was on the board of directors of the American Heart Association. He was a former Boy Scout leader and had also volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America. He was on the governing board of the Johnson County Developmental Supports. He was a member of Colonial Church in Prairie Village, and had been chairman of its board of trustees. One of Norman's great passions was organizing family and class reunions.

He also loved researching family genealogy and compiled a book of the family history. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Hemphill, in 1996. Survivors include his children, Philip Hemphill, Lawrence, KS, Marilyn Evans, Prairie Village, KS, and Norma Jean Stodden, Hawaii; two sisters, Thelma Evans and Gladys Gilliland, Lawrence, KS; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

By consent of the parties this cause is placed on this court docket, and whereupon the same came on to be heard on the 23rd day of 1837 upon the bill of the complainants, the answer of the defendant Thomas C Alderson by Robert E. Bradley his guardian ad litem, and exhibits filed, and was argued by counsel: and the subpoena awarded in this cause being returned executed more than four months ago on John Jessee and wife, and the still failing to appear and answer the complainants' bill, the same is therefore as to them taken for confessed; besides the said deft John Jessee appeared in person and consented to this decree. On consideration whereof, it is adjudged ordered & decreed, that James P. Carrell, Edward D. Kernan and Thomas Dickenson be, and they are hereby appointed Commission to divide and make partition of the lots in the bill mentioned, assigning one entire half of all the said lots to the complainant Thomas Creigh, one half of the remaining half to the complainant Louisa C. Aston formerly Louisa C. Alderson daughter of the said Thomas Alderson deceased, and now the wife of Samuel W. Aston, and the remaining half to Thomas C. Alderson infant son of Thomas Alderson deceased. And also, that they lay off and assign to Mary Jessee wife of defendant John Jessee formerly the widow of Thomas Alderson deceased one third of one half as aforesaid of the said lots, for her dower, and that they report their proceedings to the next term of this Court, and this cause is till then continued.1

I Thomas C. Alderson of Russell County and State of Virginia, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, that is to say: 1st after the payment of all my just debts I give and bequeath to the two children of my sister Louisa C. Aston, Margaret Jane and Isabella Elvira, all my personal property and the debts that are to me owing, to be held by them in equal proportions

2nd I hereby appoint Samuel W. Aston my brother in law and the father of my said sisters two children, their guardian, and also, executor of this my last Will and Testament, and desire that so much of my estate as is above devised to them as may be in his discretion necessary, be expended in their education, and the balance put out on interest for their benefit. It is also my desire that twelve months after my decease be allowed my step-father John Jessee to pay over to my executor what he owes me, except so much thereof as may be found necessary to meet my debts, which is to be collected immediately after my decease

And at a Court held for said County on Tuesday, the 6th day of April 1841
On the motion of Samuel W. Aston executor therein named who made oath, and together with William Nash and Jefferson Jessee his securities, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $2000 conditioned according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining probat of the said will in due form.
