Survivors include eight daughters and sons-in-law, Zelma Lee McCann and husband, Wayne, of Zanesville, Ohio, Mary Daddysman and Ernie Wise of Poquoson, Va., Patsy Dorsey and husband, Gary, of Fayetteville, Sharon Cahoon and husband, Eddie, of Siloam, Bonnie Lawton and husband, Art, of Siloam, Janet Dickinson and husband, Frank, of Statesville, N.C., Joetta Mabe and husband, Stephen, of Milton, N.C., and Marlene Paltrow of Siloam; a son and daughter-in-law, Delmas Fridley and wife, Fay, of Barnesville, Ga; 35 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Annabelle Zajdel of McKeesport, Pa., Alma Gray of Roper, N.C., and Flora Alapic of Bedford, Texas; and a brother, Howard Darlington of Jacksonville, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Lewis Fridley; and two sons, Arnold and Wilmer Eugene Fridley.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home.

Freda Ellen Fridley Johnston, 82, of Lost Creek, formerly of Belva, W.Va., died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born April 29, 1922, in Page, Fayette County, the daughter of the late John and Bertha Pennington Fridley. She was a member of the First Church of God at Alta, W.Va.
Freda was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, the Rev. William S. Johnston; and her son, Ralph W. Johnston.
Surviving are her children, Robert S. Johnston of Belva, W.Va., Herbert L. Johnston of Gauley Bridge, W.Va., Ray W. Johnston of Moundsville, W.Va., Drema E. Schieck of Abilene, Texas, Carolyn S. Murphy of Clarksburg, W.Va., Helen A. Johnston of Belva, W.Va., Hester E. Bradley of Weatherford, Texas, Mary J. Oiler of Lost Creek, W.Va; her sister, Marcella M. Baughman of Pullman, W.Va; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the First Church of God, Alta, W.Va. Interment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, W.Va.
The wake will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, at the Pennington Funeral Home.

Marcella M. Baughman, 85, of Pullman went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at her residence, surrounded by her loving children.
Born July 15, 1924, near Kincaid, Fayette County, she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha Pennington Fridley. In addition to her parents, Marcella was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Ken Baughman; a son, Barry Newhouse of Ireland, Lewis County; grandson, Barry Newhouse Jr; and several brothers and sisters.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed her family and working in her flower garden. She moved to an area near Pullman after retirement from North Ridgeville, Ohio.
She is survived by her children, David Newhouse of Pullman, Jack Newhouse and wife, Shannon, of Hatfield, Pa., Rita Roberts of the family residence in Pullman, and Kathy Fitzwater and husband, Nobel, of Belington; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at High Lawn Funeral Home, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill. Interment will be in High Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are preferred to Housecalls Hospice, 1226 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Betty Jane Fridley, 85 of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at Hidden Valley Nursing Home in Oak Hill following an extended illness.
Born on February 5, 1930 in Steel, KY; she was the daughter of the late Courtney M. Little and Nettie Caroline Little.
Betty retired as a nurse’s assistant and was previously employed with Hilltop Nursing Home. She also enjoyed to quilt and needlepoint crochet.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Lee little.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Diana K. Lindsay of Alabama, Gary Douglas Fridley and wife Debbie of Beaver, WV, Rebecca Mitchell of Bluefield, and Michael Fridley and wife Paula of Fayetteville; brother, Robert “Bob” Sloan and wife Pat of GA; sisters, Peggy Bibb of Mt. Hope; step-siblings, Virgie Mae Osborne of Norfolk, VA and Arnold Dale Freeman of Charleston, WV; 11 grandchildren and a multitude of great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 4pm Monday, June 8, 2015 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Pastor Delbert Walker officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum also in Oak Hill.
Friends may gather from 2pm until time of the services on Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Biography*7 Sep 1986 "     LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (AP) _ A fugitive convicted of murdering a 10-year-old girl by burying her alive in an ice chest was captured when he went to use a public telephone beside a plainclothes deputy, authorities said.

Brian Keith Smith, 25, who escaped from jail Thursday night, was arrested Saturday afternoon when the detective recognized him, said San Bernardino County sheriff’s detective Chico Rosales.

"One of our deputies was using a pay phone when he (Smith) walked up to one next to it," Rosales said. "That was fantastic. We call that lucky."

Smith, who was unarmed, was arrested without incident, Rosales said, and would be booked for investigation of escape.

Smith, a truck driver, was convicted June 30 of first-degree murder involving the 1985 torture and kidnapping of 10-year-old Melissa Wakefield of Fontana. He also was convicted of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

He is scheduled for sentencing Thursday. The prosecution is seeking life in prison without possibility of parole.

Authorities said the girl disappeared after a Fourth of July party.

She was bound, gagged, wrapped in a sleeping bag, placed in an ice chest and buried alive in the desert near Phelan, 50 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

Six days later, Smith led authorities to the remote dirt lot where the girl’s body was found.

Twenty-five deputies were called into the search after Smith broke out of the San Bernardino County Central Jail visiting area during a meeting with his mother, stepfather and a family friend.

Smith’s mother, Marlene Elizabeth Fridley, 40, and stepfather Jerry Wayne Fridley, 48, were arrested Friday at their Fontana home for investigation of aiding an escape. They were released on $5,000 bail, Rosales said. The family friend was questioned and released.

It was Smith’s second escape in three months. On June 11, during his murder trial, he was arrested on the courthouse lawn after disappearing from a holding room."9

FRIDLEY, William Mitchell, 69, of Midlothian, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020. William was the President of Virginia Steel Erectors, Inc. and was a poster child for how to live with cancer. He battled multiple cancers for numerous years with courage, strength and optimism.
William was very loved by his family. He was well respected and loved by many of his business associates, his employees and friends. William loved traveling with his wife, spending time with family and friends. Prior to his cancer battle, he enjoyed golfing and fishing and entertaining family and friends in his home.
He was supported by so many on his cancer journey, from his friends who would meet weekly at the Independence Golf Clubhouse to his Friday night poker games with longtime friends and family.
William knew the Lord had prepared a glorious place for him, free from suffering. William and Susie were blessed by their loving and caring church family at Heritage Baptist Church. William loved making friends and he believed every life was valuable. He treated the janitor with the same respect he would give the CEO. He helped so many with no expectations of anything in return.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Vernon Fridley. He is survived by his wife, Susan “Susie”; mother, Rachel Hubbard; sister, Bonnie Hernandez (Greg); brothers, Jerry Fridley (Kathy) and Vernon Fridley (Carol); half-brother, Gerald Fridley (Bobbie); half-sister, Trish Ahokas (Rob); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, August 6, and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 7, at Bliley’s-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave. A funeral ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, at Heritage Baptist Church. Interment will be private in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church, Building Fund, 7777 Cogbill Rd., Chesterfield, Va. 23832.6
