She was born Oct. 10, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., daughter of Hattie F. Bragg Jolliffe, of Hinton, and the late Thomas B. Jolliffe. She was a homemaker and was Baptist. She is survived by her husband, Douglas E. Ayers; a son, Douglas E. Ayers, of Morgantown; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Tammy) Keener and, Renee D. Ayers, both of Morgantown; three brothers, Thomas E., Joseph L. and Billy R. Jolliffe, all of Hinton; a sis ter, Aretha A. Ward, of Pipestem; and four grandchildren, Michael L. Keener Jr., Douglas E. Ayers Jr., Tyler J. Ayers and Joseph M. Johnson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ida M. Jordan; and two nieces, Teresa A. Ward and Regina F. Jordan. Friends may call at Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton, from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Elk Knob Baptist Church, Elk Knob, with Pastor George Cook officiating. Pivont Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.3 |

Born April 16, 1944 in Summers County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Benton and Hattie Faye Bragg Jolliffe.
She dearly loved her family and was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and flower gardening.
Aretha was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frazier Ward; one daughter, Teresa Ann Ward; two brothers, Thomas Edward ?Bow? Jolliffe and Joseph Leroy Jolliffe; two sisters, Helen Faye Ayers and Ida Mae Jolliffe; two nieces Regina Jordan and Tina Jolliffe and one nephew, Thomas Jolliffe.
Those left to cherish her memory include her partner, Oakley R. ?Buck? Bennett Jr. of Pipestem; one daughter, Lula Faye Motherway and husband Patrick of Rhode Island; one son, Charles Randy Ward and wife Maritza of Virginia; four grandchildren, Jessica, Patrick, Abraham and Matthew; one brother, Billy Ray Jolliffe of Hinton and one nephew, Rodney Ray Jolliffe of Grafton.
Private services will be held at a later date.3 |
