| Mlt-Service* | Henry Whitfield Dooley was a Private, Co C, Artillery Corps, Wise Legion, VA during the Civil War. His date of enlistment is not known, but he appeared in a report of absentees without leave on 30 December 1861 from Richmond, VA, noting that he was from Monroe Co. He further appears on another report of absentees without leave dated 22 February 1862 from Great Bridge, which noted that he had left 1 October (assumed 1861), place of residence was Monroe Co, and the report furnished by Capt Lowry. No further record of Henry has been found. Family tradition is that he was killed at the Battle of the Wilderness in May 1864 in Spotsylvania Co, but this is not substantiated, and the Henry W. Dooley who was at this battle survived the war and lived in Bedford Co, VA. By 1889, Henry was in Missouri.3 | |
