He was an electrical sub-contractor, a member of the Moose, veteran of the United States Air Force, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Phillip Wayne Burnett and Fred Burnett Jr..

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Boone Burford of Beckley; three sons, Richard Burford Jr. and wife, Sandy, Mark Burford and wife, Jill, Dale Burford, all of Virginia; one daughter, Debora Hara of Connecticut; one stepson, Leslie Burnett of Alderson; two stepdaughters, Iris Parsons and husband, Dallas of Mount Hope, W.Va., Geneva Bair and husband, Andy, of Florida.

Also surviving are three brothers, Larry Burford of Virginia, Gerald Burford of Florida, Bruce Burford of Kentucky; one sister, Delores Asbury of Florida; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.2

Danny Wayne ‘Birdie' Burdette, 52, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Hinton, entered into his eternal rest Monday, May 31, 2010, following a long illness.

Born April 6, 1958, at Hinton, he was a son of the late James Burdette and Betty Thompson Burdette of Hilldale. Danny served his country in the United States Army as part of the 82nd Airborne, was a member of Freedom Baptist Church at Powleys Creek, was a 1977 graduate of Hinton High School where he loved playing football for the Bobcats and was a avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as spending time with his family.

Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his best friend and companion, Jenny Horton of Crab Orchard; two sons, Patrick and Jacob Burdette of Hilldale; three sisters, Pat Hartwell and husband Jack of Hinton, Vickie Lemmon and husband Vince of Ohio and Karen Dady and husband Marty of Ohio; and one brother, Ronnie Burdette of Arizona.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Freedom Baptist Church at Powleys Creek, with Pastor George Cook officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the Church.

Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
