LAYLAND — Harry Edward Spinks, Jr., of Chestnut Knob Road, died Thursday, December 24, 2009, at his home, following a long illness.
Born April 11, 1920, at Belle, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Harry Edward Spinks, Sr., and Sallie Jane Burdette Spinks.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean War. Harry was a retired inspector for TRW, Inc., and was a member of Aircraft Workers Alliance, and the United Auto Workers Local #2400.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Carter, in 1995, two infant sisters, and a brother, Basil Spinks.
Survivors include: a daughter, Connie Rogers of Jonesville, N.C; a son: Kenneth Spinks of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother: Bernard Spinks of Sunbury, Ohio; and four grandchildren: Tiffany, Taylor, Kelleen, and Marissa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Chestnut Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Bolen officiating. Burial will follow at Layland Cemetery, Layland.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service (12 noon to 1 p.m.) at the church.

Russell Edward Lyons died in his home December 10, 2005, at the age of 86.
He was born in Belle, W.Va. on March 27, 1919, one of six children of John W. and Orphie White Lyons. He lived in Kanawha City since 1947. Russell operated Lyons Wholesale candy & confectionery business until his retirement in the late 1980's.
He served his country as a U.S. Army Combat Infantryman in Europe during WWII and was decorated with a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Beulah L. Lyons, in September 1991.
He is survived by his Son, Glenn Edward Lyons, four grandsons and three great-grandchildren, all of whom live in Texas, and a younger brother, Phillip Eugene Lyons of the Charleston area.
Memorial services will be held at J. E. Johnson Funeral Home, 514 50th St. S. E. in Kanawha City on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. with the Rev Fred Shaheen officiating.4,1 |

Sharon K. Johnson Ayres, 69, of Beckley, passed away, Monday, June 27, 2011.
Born April 27, 1942, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Lorene Johnson of Beckley.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Winfred "Wink" Johnson.
Survivors include her sons, Tim Toney, Shady Spring and grandson, Max of Georgia, Barry Ayres and wife, Nesan and granddaughter, Jordan of Florida, and daughter, Darlene K. Toney and companion, Danny E. Cooper of West Virginia and granddaughter, Kelly J. Bowman and great grandchildren, Kassidy, Dante' of West Virginia and former husband, William G. Ayres of Beckley.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society, to honor Sharon's love for her pets.
In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated. The family will hold a private memorial service.
