Born May 25, 1933, at Ansted, he was the son of the late Boyd R. and Lola Richmond Cales. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lemuel and Archie Cales; a sister, Ethel Marie Cales; and a son-in-law, Charlie Coffman. Survivors include three sons, Gary Cales and wife, Susan, of Marshville, Howard Cales of Sandstone and David Cales and wife, Heather, of Waxhaw, N.C; two daughters, Linda Coffman of Lindside and Diana Kroninger and husband, Ray, of Charlotte; two brothers, Owen Cales and wife, Jessie, of Meadow Bridge and Clarence Edward Cales and wife, Ella Mae, of Flushing, Mich; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. W.T. Treadway of Wadesville, N.C., officiating. Burial will follow in Peterstown Cemetery. Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Gary, Howard and David Cales, Harold Vest, Ray Kroninger, Jeremy Hasty, Christopher Hargett and Ricky Grissom.
