Darrell "Bob" Piper, 97, of Ottawa Lake, MI, died Monday, July 9, 2018, in his home. Born May 14, 1921, in Pittsford, MI, he was the son of Paul E. and Julia L. (Haskins) Piper. A WWII U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he married Elmeta "Louise" Burgess on November 13, 1943. Bob was an electrician for over 35 years, working out of I.B.E.W, Local in Rossford. He retired in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was also a member of Bridgepoint Church in Temperance.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Louise; children, Sylvia (Butch) Jewell and Diane Dippold; grandchildren, Cassie and Eric; great-grandchildren, Seth, Aurora and Ilse. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Piper; brother, David Piper; sisters, Linda Piper and Nancy Fellabaum.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery.1 |

Wallace R. "Wally" Burgess, age 84, formerly of Kingwood, WV, died Sunday, November 29, 2015, with his family at his side, in Brecksville, Ohio.
He was born March 5, 1931 in Sanger, WV, a son of the late Frank and Janie (Wilkerson) Burgess.
Wally was a 1949 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a 1957 graduate of Marshall College. He served as a Senior Auditor for US Steel for 13 years; Manager of Marketing Services for Westinghouse; Managing Partner for Soltis Associate Management. In 1978 he established the Burgess Motor Company until his retirement in 1999.
He was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, member and Past President of Kingwood Rotary Club, Past President of Preston County Sheltered Workshop, First Vice Commander of the George D. Jackson Post 56 American Legion, 1968 Governor of the Toastmasters International District 13.
Wally is survived by one daughter and spouse, Susan and Jeff Shrum of Plano, TX; one son and spouse John and Betsy Burgess of Brecksville, OH; three grandsons; Michael, Patrick and Ryan Shrum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy "Dot" (Yeager) Burgess on August 27, 2009; five brothers and one sister.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street; from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at St. Michaels Episcopal Church 107 McDonald Street on Saturday December 5, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Frances J. McCoy officiating. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.3 |
