She graduated from Peru High School in 1944 and from Ball State Teachers College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. She graduated with a double major in English and history. June married Donald Jean Grove Dec. 31, 1949, in Peru. He preceded her in death in October of 1995. She was a teacher at Bluffton Central Junior High School for several years before accepting a teaching position at Adams Central High School. She finished her teaching career at Bellmont High School. In addition to a weekly feature story, June regularly wrote humor columns, including “Bumps in the Road” and “A Chat with Bratt.” She wrote many feature stories about children involved with the Wells County Boys and Girls Club. A highlight of her reporting career came back in May of 1980 when she was given the opportunity to fly in an Indiana Air National Guard F-4 fighter jet with Lt. Col. Joe Briner as part of an interview and story she wrote about the Bluffton pilot. June was an active participant with the Wells County Boys and Girls Club and served on its executive board for many years. She spearheaded for many years the local American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” annual fundraiser. June was an avid volunteer at the Wells County Animal Shelter.
