Alderson Home Page Following is a list of Alderson land patents available from the Bureau of Land Management, Eastern States, General Land Office Records Automation web site. This site provides live database and image access to more than two million federal land title records for the Eastern Public Land States, dating back to 1820. It does not yet includes patents from Iowa and Illinois.
Prior to the Homestead Act of 1862, which offered millions of acres of federal land for sale to homesteaders, most of the patents were issued for cash sales under "An act making further provision for the sale of Public land" passed by Congress in April 1820. Homestead patent documents did not include the residence of the buyers, so most post-1862 entries do not contain this information. Post-1862 entries with this information were cash-sales patents.

Note the original signature of Thomas Jefferson in the patent for Simon Alderson of 1805, granting 100 acres in the military district of Ohio for Simon's military service during the Revolutionary War.
