| Death* | 13 Aug 1883 | Susannah died on 13 Aug 1883 at Buffalo, Scott Co, IA, at age 84. Death of an Old Settler Buffalo, Iowa, Aug 14, 1883 - Yesterday morning, of old age, Mrs. Susan Fridley, aged 90 [sic] years, 6 months and 24 days, breathed her last. She was a native of Shenandoah County, Va., and in the Old Dominion she was united to Mr. Wm. Fridley, who survives her. Among the mountains of West [sic] Virginia a happy childhood passed, habits of honesty and industry formed, and Mrs. Fridley developed into a woman of perfect health, this enabling her to be able, for the past sixty-four years, to minister to the wants of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1836 deceased and her husband located in Ohio, and in 1846 crossed the Mississippi River to find a home in Scott County. She has proved herself a true wife, a fond mother, and a kind and liberal neighbor. Although verging on a hundred years her mental faculties remained unimpaired to the last. The deceased was the mother of six children, two sons and four daughters. Mr. William Fuller, one of DeWitt's respected merchants, is her oldest son, being 64 years. The relatives desire us to extend their thanks to the many citizens that were untiring in their efforts to minister to the deceased in her closing career. Elder J.H. Whisler preached her funeral sermon.4,3 |
