| Research Note* | | The identification of Hannah Margaret Fridley, daughter of Frederick Fridley, as the mother of Charles Ira Fridley is not proven. Charles' marriage record in 1885 and his death certificate in 1955 both list his mother as Hannah Fridley, but no further information on her is given. In 1870, however, Charles was enumerated with Frederick Fridley, relationship not given, while Frederick's own daughter Hannah Fridley was not listed in the household.
Hannah Fridley, daughter of Frederick, first appears in the 1860 census of Augusta Co. at age 9 (b. c1851). This birth date would be too young for her to have been the mother of Charles in 1861. Hannah, though, is consistently listed as having been born between 1840 to 1847 in subsequent marriage, census, and death records (1843 in 1900 census), which would then make it possible for her to have been Charles' mother. That Charles was living in Frederick's household in 1870 would suggest that he was from Frederick's line, but an earlier birth year for Hannah is the only way that is feasible for her to have been Charles' mother.
No other Hannah Fridley has been found in 1860 Augusta Co. census that could likely be Charles' mother. |
