SFC George Charles Fridley U.S. Army (Ret.), 73, died February 26, 2009, at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born May 28, 1935, in Denver, Colorado to the late George D. and Opal (Smith) Fridley.

George retired from the US Army in 1987 after 26 honorable years of service. He continued working as a government contractor until his official retirement in 2004. George was involved in rehabilitation of wounded troops returning from Iraq.

He donated his time, conversing with and inspiring them to use their hands to assemble fishing flies. Some of his hobbies included fishing, wood and leather working, Civil War history, and building model airplanes.

He is survived by his daughter Pam Francesconi (Jon), son, Keith and Sherre Fridley, all of Colorado Springs. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tony, Marc, Nicole, Briauna, his brother Gary Fridley and sister Kay Stewart of Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Michelle Fridley and grandson Jason Francesconi.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance. Funeral services with Army Honors will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

George was truly one of those individuals who you could honestly say, "To know him is to like him." He is deeply missed by all that knew him.3,1
