James Thomas "Chink" Fridley, 76, of Goshen died Wednesday June 16, 1999 at Allegheny Regional Hospital in Low Moor. He was born March 5, 1923 in Nitro, W.Va., the son of the late Walter Thomas and Stella Mae McDaniel Fridley. Mr. Fridley is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margie Paxton Fridley; his devoted children, two daughters and one son, Lorraine Thompson and husband Douglas, Gloria Jean Fridley Robertson and Dennis James Fridley and wife Debbie, all of Goshen; two sisters, Agnes Via of Covington and Margaret Wilmer of Clifton Forge; one brother, Jack L. Fridley of Covington. He is survived by his grandchildren who he dearly loved, Tammy Stinespring and Denise Strickler, both of Millboro, Quentin Fridley, Katelyn Fridley and Kristen Fridley, all of Goshen, two great-grandchildren, Santana Strickler and Mitchell Stinespring, both of Millboro; two very special friends, Robert "Foxy" Terry and H.D. "Buster" Carter Jr. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Fridley was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II European Theater. He went to war on Oct. 17, 1941. He worked for C & O Railroad for 43 years. He retired on June 1, 1984. He was a member of the Goshen Methodist Church, past member of the Goshen First Aid and Goshen Fire Department, member of Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1499 of Lexington. A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at the Craigsville, Sensabaugh & Zimmerman Funeral Home with the Rev. Harley Bender officiating. Interment was in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the residence of Mr. Fridley in Goshen and at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. Friday. Pallbearers were H.B. Smith Jr., John Rohr, Cleatus Newcomb Jr., Glenn Thompson, William E. Edwards, Larry Nycum, Mike Knick and Darrell Sprouse. Honorary pallbearers were Dolly Jackson Jr., Darrell "J.B." Sprouse, Jackie Jackson, David Pollock, Sam Brown, William Via, Mike Carter, Edward Via, Robert Burke, Ted Seeeney, Robert Putnam, Wayne Kirby, Mike Tennant, Bobby Grogg, John Grey, Billy Minter, Guy Waggie, Mike Hicks, Eddie Ingram and all friends and co-workers of CXS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goshen Methodist Church or the Goshen Volunteer Rescue Squad.6,4,3 |
