Charlene Bragg Perry, 79, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on August 4th, after a very long and brave struggle with lung disease. The funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7 at Salem Funeral Home Main Street Chapel in Winston-Salem, NC; the family will receive friends following the service. Gary Byrum of Calvary Baptist Church will be officiating. A private burial will be held in Prosperity, WV. Charlene was born in Mt. Hope, West Virginia on May 29, 1933. She graduated from Mt. Hope High School and continued on to receive a RN Degree from Lewis Gail School of Nursing in Roanoke, VA. Charlene was married to Dr. Irvin Samuel Perry on February 18, 1956 they were married 40 years. Charlene worked as a Registered Nurse in Charleston, WV where she met Irvin Perry. She also worked and an RN in Chapel Hill and as a Volunteer Emergency Nurse at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed her Family and Friends most in life. When able to attend, she was actively involved in Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Charlene is survived by four her children, Dr. Samuel Perry and wife Beverly of Nashville, Cam Perry Donovan and husband, James of Charlotte, James Perry and wife Lynne of Charlotte, and Afred Perry of Winston-Salem and eight grandchildren, McRae, Samantha, Zack, Max, Ann, Sophia, Jane Campbell, and Claire. Charlene is also survived by her favorite brother Jack Campbell Bragg along with his amazing wife Jackie and her favorite niece Catherine Slaughter. Charlene and family wish to add to the survival list a very special person who became a daughter in actions and integral part of the entire family - Mrs. Minnie Frye. Charlene is preceded in death by her husband Irvin Perry, sister and best friend Frances Bragg Slaughter, and brothers Gail Bragg, and Joe Bragg. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family of Charlene Perry wishes to thank long time friend of family Dr Richard Spencer who served her and the family with immeasurable grace and love. Survivors include his sister, Deborah (Damon) Pendleton of Macclenny; nephews, Craig, Philip and Ronald Pendleton of Macclenny; ex-wife, Margaret Sanders of Jacksonville; son, Walter Lee Boothe of Jacksonville; and one grandchild, Ian Lee Boothe of Jacksonville, FL. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. Gene Burnsed officiating. Interment following in Woodlawn Cemetery.
