Daisy Mae Helmintoller Bishop, 87, of Indian Valley, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Radford Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Radford, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cavel Lee Bishop; three brothers; and five sisters. She was born in Covington, Va., on May 4, 1921. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Duncan, of Indian Valley, Gail and Lloyd Cole, of Dublin, and Brenda and Wayne Henegar, of Alum Ridge; sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Karen Bishop, Danny and Pat Bishop, and C.L. and Drema Bishop, all of Christiansburg; sisters-in-law, Nina Wiess, of Dublin, Jeanette Bishop, of Fairlawn, and Sylvia Minnick, of Radford; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Radford Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and the Hospice nurses for their kindness and care of our mother. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel in Floyd with the Rev. Joe Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Big Sand Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home.3,2 |

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Jerman, and her husband, Leonard Pettitt, one son, Paul Jerman and one daughter, Kathleen Walker. Mrs. Pettitt had retired from the H.O. Canfield Co. as an inspector. She was also member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Surviving are four daughters, Clara Copland Hanna and her husband, Joe, Karen Williams, Beverly Baker and her husband, Richard, all of Covington and Sharon Broughman and her husband, Carrol, of Clifton Forge; three sons, J.C. Jerman and his wife, Jeanie, of Covington, Bobby Jerman and his wife, Norma, and Billy Jerman and his wife, Aiza, all of Clifton Forge; 15 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 1:00 PM in Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. The family will receive their friends from 11:30 to 12:30 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Arritt Funeral Home.7 |

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Emmett O. Goodwin Jr. in 1993 and a daughter Barbara Sue Goodwin in 1953; two brothers, George and Kenneth and one sister Margaret. Barbara was a member of Christ United Methodist Church as well as part of the Women’s circle. She was employed by Leggett’s Department Store where she worked as a clerk. Surviving are four sons, Jeffrey Goodwin; Joel Goodwin and his wife Rita; Charles Goodwin and his wife Ruth all of Covington and David Goodwin and his wife Peggy of Richmond, five grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith and Susan, both of Covington and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Christina Bowen officiating. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to service time at Arritt Funeral Home on Friday. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.5 |

Surviving are four Sons and Daughters-in-law, Jim and Debbie Woodson and Greg and Kathy Woodson, all of Clifton Forge, Steve and Daisy Woodson of Stuarts Draft and Tom and Diane Woodson of Waynesboro; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one Sister, Edith Bunch of Covington and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.7 |
