Also two daughters Mrs C S King of Sandstone and Mrs C W Mize of Green Sulphur Springs, in addition to numerous friends. The remains were laid to rest Tuesday at the Mize graveyard on Lick Creek".5,3 |

Mrs. Rachel Ann Adkins, age 85 years, widow of the late Mr. James Adkins, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Virginia E. Smithson, in Wolf Creek district, Monroe County, near Alderson, on Saturday morning, April 28, 1934, at 3:20 o'clock. Death followed brief illness from paralysis. Mrs. Adkins had been a faithful and devout member of the Sandstone Church at Sandstone, Summers county, since the age of 15 years, and had lived a long and useful Christian life. She is survived by five children, who are: Mrs. Calvin Jones of Huntington; Mrs. Lula Ward of Kanawha Falls; Mrs. Cora McKee; Mrs. Virginia E Smithson of near Alderson; and Mrs. Europa Jones of Florida. Mrs. Adkins was preceded to the grave several years ago by her husband, and also by four children. The funeral services were held at the Sandstone Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock and burial followed beside the body of her first husband, late Mr. Brice Jones, nearby.1,6,7 |

Zela Geraldine Booth, 94 of Beckley, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Harper Mills in Beckley following a short illness.
Born on April 18, 1922 in Covington, VA to the late William Fridley and Margaret Small Fridley.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Randolph Booth, Sr; sons, Donald Lee Booth and John Randolph “Randy” Booth, Jr; sisters, Virginia Barker and Rebecca Halsey; brother, Bill Fridley; and a very special daughter-in-law, Phyllis Athey Booth.
Geraldine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and enjoyed taking care of her family. She was head cook in charge for Wild Water Rafting Co. for many years. She was known for the best baked macaroni and cheese, cornbread, stuffed green peppers, and pineapple upside-down cake. Some of her hobbies include reading her Bible, playing Skip-bo, dominos, and scrabble with special friends, Dolly Dixon and Florence Tolliver and going on vacations with lifelong best friend, June Hedgecock. She was also an avid word search puzzle master and could complete a book in no-time.
Those surviving her include her children, Jerry Booth of Poca and Brenda Sloan and husband Bill of Beckley; sister, Janice Anderson of Akron, OH; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive her.
Services for Geraldine will be conducted at 5pm on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Rev. PJ Meduri officiating and interment to follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 4-5pm on Saturday at High Lawn Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Bowman, Josh Bowman, Christopher Bowman, Steve French, and Tom Washington.

"Mrs. E.A. Upton, who has been making her home for some time with her granddaughter, Mrs. W. W. Wheeler, died Monday night at the home of Arthur Lilly in Avis, where she had been visiting for several days. Her death was due to old age and complications.
Mrs. Upton was 87 years of age and was a Miss Lowe before marriage, and was a good Christian lady, liked by all who formed her acquaintance. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Avie Yates, of Roanoke, Va.
The remains were taken to the home of Mrs. Wheeler today and as yet no funeral arrangements have been made, but it is thought she will be buried at Hilldale".7,1 |
