Biography* William Johnson, son of Rev. John and Eliza Simms Johnson was born on Laurel Creek a tributary of Gauley River not far from present Swiss P.O. Nov. 22, 1811. In 1859 licensed as a local preacher in the M.E. church [Methodist] preached regularly at Ebenezer his home church. His last sermon Oct. 1906, about 1 year before he died which occurred on Oct. 2, 1907 [sic: 1901].
