Final rites for Mrs. Martha Ellen Armstrong, Scarbro, Rt. 1, will be conducted at 2 PM Monday in the Fair View Methodist Church, East Kingston with the Rev. C.O. Walker and the Rev. Howard Wriston in charge. Burial will be in the Wriston Cemetery, Scarbro, Rt. 1. The 95 year old woman died at home of a Son, Clyde Armstrong, Scarbro Rt. 1, at 12:08 am. Saturday after a long illness. Born at Loop Creek, April 12, 1865, she was a daughter of the late John and Amanda Johnson Wriston. She has a son Hobart of Rt. 1, Scarbro; one daughter, Mrs. Ed Harless of Pax, one brother, Henry C. Wriston, Tulsa, OK. Nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Armstrong, Mrs. Martha Ellis-95, of RFD1, Scarbro, Fayette County, died Saturday morning at the home of a son Clyde of Scarbro, after a long illness. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of Fairview Methodist Church at East Kingston. Surviving are another son, Hobart of RFD 1 Scarbro; a daughter, Mrs Ed Harless of Pax; a brother, Henry Wriston of Tulsa, OK; Nine grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Service will be conducted at 2 pm Monday in Fairview Methodist Church at East Kingston by the Rev. C.D. Walker and Rev. Howard Wriston. Burial will be in Wriston Cemetery at RFD 1 , Scarbro. The body is at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill and will be taken to the Chruch and hour before service.3,2 |

| Biography* | | A. Jennings Kincaid
A. Jennings Kincaid was born at Kincaid, Fayette County, October 18, 1879, the son of Kellis and Lucinda Johnson Kincaid. His grandfather was James Kincaid and his great grandfather was James Kincaid, an Irishman, who had a large amount of land at Page and Kincaid. The town of Kincaid was named form him.
In 1909, A. Jennings Kencaid was appointed deputy sheriff under Col. Bob Dickinson, who was sheriff of Fayette County.
In 1913, Mr. Kincaid established a home in Montgomery and in 1916 took over the management of the Montgomery-Cales Insurance Agency. In 1924 he reorganized the agency under the name of Mountain State Insurance Agency and worked as president and general manager.
In 1920 he was again appointed deputy sheriff under Sheriff C. C. Conley. In 1910 he worked as a member of the Board of Education of Kanawha District. He worked to get funds for the building of the Montgomery High School. He was a member of the City Council at Montgomery at the time the City Hall was built and the streets were paved.
Mr. Kincaid was married in 1897 to Anna Belle Johnson, who died in 1904. His second wife was Grace Thompson of Ronceverte, West Virginia.9 |

Funeral Services for Viola Smith, 89, Clinton resident will be held 2:00 Friday, July 5, 2013 in the Kiesaumemorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Loyd Hall and burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
Viola (Shockey) Smith was born March 13, 1924 to John Shockey and Mamie (Kincaid) Shockey in Fayette County, West Virginia and passed away early Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Smith was raised in West Virginia and attended her schooling in the Oakhill School. She had to stop her formal education at very young age but continued to learn to read and write by using the Bible. She moved to Connecticut when she was a young lady to work in a needle factory during WWII. She met the love of her life and he was in the military and he moved her back to Cordell, OK where she lived with his family until he got out of the service. On February 4, 1942 they were united in marriage and made their home in Cordell for a short time. They moved to Clinton in 1946 where they lived for the rest of their married life and raised their five children.
She was a member of the Arapaho 1st Baptist Church; she loved the outdoors where she spent countless hours gardening and working in her yard; she enjoyed her animals, fishing, collecting peacock feathers and she was a great cook and an accomplished seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984, her parents, a sister, Ida Martin and two brothers Bill Shockey and Houston Shockey.
She is survived by four daughters, Velda Jo Sams and her husband, Jim, of West Virginia, Vonna Sue Phillips and husband Hoyt, of Clinton, Verla Beth Powers,of Arapaho, Vivian Rose Stockton, of Clinton and a son, Virgil Smith and wife, Pat, of Arapaho and a sister, Savannah Thrower, of CA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Danna Hillenbrand, of MT, Virgil Smith, Jr., of El Reno, April Stucker, of Arapaho, Amanda Pugh, of Fletcher, OK, Adam Bieberich, of Clinton, Crystal Snider, of Clinton, Melissa Hoffman,of Long Dale, OK, James Davis, of Clinton, Lori Murphy, of Arapaho, Sarah Claussen, of Thomas and John Lair,of Clinton and 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.6,3 |

Funeral services for Lorraine "Lo" Minnix, 94, of Jeffersonville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel, Jeffersonville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. She died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Oak Hill, W. Va., a retired cashier from the U.S. Census Bureau and previously worked at I.C.I. America in Charlestown. She volunteered much of her life to charitable organizations, including the Empty Stocking Fund, the Community Kitchen and was later recognized by The Evening News as an outstanding citizen for all of her volunteer work. She was a very active member of the Clark County Democratic Party where she served as campaign manager for Jimmy Bottorff (past state representative) and Dean Marble. She was the past manager of Green Springs Mobile Home Park for 60 years and helped the residents any way possible to make their lives happy. She was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, a charter member of one of the first 4-H clubs in America, a member of the Democratic Women's Club, a Kentucky Colonel, recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award and received the Special Deputy of Clark County Award from Michael L. Becher.
She is survived by her daughter, Candy Wilson, of Jeffersonville; a brother, Sen. Shirley Love and his wife, Audrey, of Oak Hill, W.Va; a sister, Margaret Painter, of Oak Hill, W.Va; granddaughter, Kelli McFarland and her husband, Mac, of Jeffersonville; grandson, Todd Wilson and his wife, Rebecca, of Jeffersonville; great-grandson, Zachary Brown, of Jeffersonville; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family, Esther Henderson, of Jeffersonville, Lea Ann Kuehl and her husband, Richard, of Carbondale, Ill., and Carey Davis and her husband, Chris, of Jeffersonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Minnix; and her parents, Earl and Winona Love.8,9 |
