Reva A. Gill Cales

HINTON - Reva A. Gill Cales, 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born Sept. 27, 1905, at Sandstone, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Cory Evans Gill. She had lived most of her life in Hinton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Houston Cales in 1964; a daughter, Sandra Faye Cales; four sisters, Almeda Adkins, Pauline Vandall, Lena Cales and Geneva Fitzwater; and a brother, Howard Gill.

Survivors include four sons, Kermit Cales and wife, Elladine, of Brownsville, Ky., Gene Cales and wife, Veronica, of Florida, Jennings Cales and wife, Nelsy, of Christiansburg, Va., and Roger Cales and wife, Peggy, of Waynesboro, Pa; four daughters, Drema Blankenship of Hinton, Gerena Steel of Charlotte, N.C., Judy Biggs and husband, Clarence, of Charlotte and Joan Netral and husband, Charles, of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Dow Gill of Sandstone; a sister, Melba Martin of Virginia; 22 grandchildren, one of whom she reared, Echols "Tinker" Cales of South Carolina; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Creek Baptist Church with Pastors Steve Goodwin and Melvin Wills officiating. Burial will follow in King Mountain Cemetery, Ramp.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton, and one hour before service Saturday at the church.

Jennings “Carty” Cales, 79, of Christiansburg, VA went home to be with the Lord Thursday June 22, 2023 at his home following a long illness.

Born March 2, 1944 at Sandstone he was the son of the late Houston and Reva Gill Cales. Carty was of the Baptist Faith who loved to hunt, fish, gardening, growing flowers and bird watching. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, certified welder and a retired employee of the Radford Ammunition Plant.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sandy Cales, Gerena Steel and Drema Blankenship and one brother, Kermit Cales.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Nelsie Bennett Cales of Christiansburg, VA; three sons, Craig Cales of Princeton, Mike Atwell and wife LeAnn of Lafayette, IN and Brian Cales; two grandchildren, Caitlyn Johnson and Daniel Atwell; four great grandchildren, one sister, Judy Biggs of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Roger Cales and wife Peggy of Waynesboro, PA, Tinker Cales and wife Janice of Nimitz and Gene Cales and wife Ronnie of FL and his beloved canine, Homer.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Tuesday June 27, 2023 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Tinker Cales officiating. Burial will follow in the Gill Family Cemetery at Tug Creek. Friends may call from 11:00 am until service time on Tuesday at the funeral parlors.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.2
