Biography* JOHN W. GRAHAM. This is the youngest son of David Graham, who is the oldest member of that family now living, and one of the old residents of this section of the country. John W. Graham was born at Clayton July 9, 1860. He was married on the 24th of August, 1892, to Miss Frankie Lowry, a daughter of J. W. Lowry, one of the pioneer settlers of Fayette County. He was raised on the farm, where he spent his early life, first engaging in other business at New Richmond, where he established a plant for the manufacture of timber products, which he disposed of in 1893, and removed to Central City, where he resided until early in 1899, at which time he became proprietor of the old Republican newspaper plant at Hinton, and founded the present "Hinton Leader," which he has edited and published since that day until the present. It is an up-to-date, enterprising country newspaper with a large circulation, and is prospering, Mr. Graham being a Republican in his politics. He established the "Daily News," the first daily newspaper ever printed in Summers County, May 5, 1902, and continues the same unto this day. He publishes the same in connection with his "Leader," operating only one plant. The first issue was on May 5, 1902. It is a four-page, five-column paper. and is the pioneer paper of that character in this section. It is independent in its political views. John W. Graham is a Republican in politics, and has taken a decided stand in political matters, and was one of the leaders in the political troubles which beset the party from 1902 to 1906, of that branch of the party known as the "Old-timers," he declining, with many other of the leading and influential Republicans, to support the entire ticket nominated by his party in 1904. He has been, also, as well as his paper with its influence, a violent opponent to the present State administration, headed by Governor Dawson, being a follower of the Teter wing; nor has he been kindly disposed toward the new and existing tax laws being put in force in the last three or four years, but he is an ardent Republican, and believes in the doctrines of that party, as are all of his family in this county.7

Census*9 Jun 1880 Alexander Evans and Edna Skaggs appeared on the census as head of household at Wilderness Dist, Nicholas Co, WV, on 9 Jun 1880. The enumeration lists "Lucien Huddleston", age 9, b. WV. It has been assumed this is Charles Lucian Huddleston, age 7 in the household of his father John Paddy Huddleston in 1880, but this seems unlikely. Although Charles Lucian's mother is Sarah E. Evans, and he is listed as nephew of Alexander Evans, there is no apparent relationship between Sarah E. and Alexander. Sarah E. was the daughter of John & Martha (Hamilton) Evans and their first two children were born in Botetourt Co, VA, and John's parents were from VA as well. This is likely another Lucien Huddleston.3

Biography* Lina Mims Alderson was the son of Curtis Alderson who lived at Lick Creek, Summers County, West Virginia. James William Alderson was the son of Lina Mims Alderson and was born July 17, 1854 at Lick Creek, Summers County. He died January 12, 1920 at his home in Bellepoint, W. Va. He was married to Mary Virginia George, the daughter of Thomas Lewis George of Greenbrier County on December 17, 1879 at Green Sulphur Springs, W. Va. Mary Virginia George Alderson died Jan. 16, 1935 at the age of 83 years. They were the parents of five children who were all born at Brooks, W. Va. They were Clara Burk Alderson Ayres, Emily Alice Alderson Burks, Elbert Fowler Alderson, Dollie Virginia Grace Alderson Shumate, and James Clarence Alderson who is the last survivor of this line of Aldersons to bear the Alderson name. James William Alderson, or Jim, as he was affectionately known, served one term in the W. Va. Legislature. He operated a general store at Bellepoint, W.Va. which at the time was called Foss. He served as overseer of the Bellepoint Water System which he was inspecting and thus was thrown from his horse causing his death in 1920. He also contracted cement work and built burial vaults which he conveyed to many adjoining counties.

James Clarence Alderson, son of James William Alderson was married to Daisy Nickell Boude on May 15, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Walter H. Boude and Alice Ford Boude. Walter H. Boude served several terms as clerk of the Circuit Court of Summers County. James Clarence Alderson was born June 20, 1891. He followed in his father's foot-steps becoming a merchant in Hinton W. Va. for many years. He is a lover of baseball having played professionally for a number of years in Columbus, Ohio and still follows the various teams. He worked as an auditor for the State of West Virginia until his retirement. Two daughters were born to this union: Mrs. Dorothy Alderson Farley who lives in Charleston, W. Va., and Mrs. Frances Alderson Neely of Hinton, W. Va. The family home where Mr. Alderson lives was built in 1914 by his father who made the bricks and did much of the construction himself. Submitted by Frances A. Neely.1
