Biography* | 1874 | DR. MILES H. ALDERSON Mr. Alderson was born in Hart county, Kentucky, September 19, 1841, where he was raised to manhood. His early inclinations led him to the study of medicine, and so infatuated was he with the science, that over the remonstrance of his family, he pursued the study clandestinely for about three years, secreting his books. When about twenty-one years old, with the approval of his parents, he commenced a course of reading under Dr. J. C. Hall, of his native county, which was kept up about a year; then, at the advice of his preceptor, he commenced a practice for himself, which was continued some three years, acting during the time under the advice and counsel of Dr. Hall. In 1866 he entered the medical department of the Louisville University, taking lectures on the profession for six months, at the conclusion of which he received his diploma. He received an ad eundem degree in 1868, from the Kentucky School of Medicine, of Louisville. In 1867 he came to Mason county, and located in Bath township, where he has since been engaged in active practice. October 19, 1867, he was joined in marriage to Miss Sarah E., daughter of Michael and Jane Clotfelter, old citizens of Mason county. This union has been blessed with four children, three living, and born in the following order: Miss Ellenora, Miss Maud, and Virgil. Selden, an infant son, died when about three years of age. These are bright, promising children, which make glad the home circle. Dr. Alderson's family is of English origin, and, beside himself, it has only, so far as known, furnished one physician-a Dr. Alderson of England, referred to in a work on Theory and Practice, by Watson, edited by Condie. The ancestry came to this country some time before our national independence was achieved. The Doctor's grandfather, Aaron Alderson, was born in Virginia, a short time before the revolutionary war. He raised a family of thirteen children, by two wives. By his first wife, formerly Ruth Mars, he had eight children: Mrs. Ruth Poynter, Mrs. Rebecca Condra, Mrs. Ann Blevins, Mrs. Lina Blount, Aaron, John, Moses and Hiram. By his second wife, formerly Ruth Bausly, he had five, viz: Alberry L., James B., Mrs. Lucinda (Madison) Maxey, Melinda, the wife of John H. Houk, and Bausley. The Doctor's father, also named Aaron, was a native of Kentucky. He married Miss Mahala Brooks, by whom he had thirteen children, twelve of whom were raised, viz: Mrs. America, wife of Joseph Gentry, Moses, Mrs. Caroline Hicks, William, Mrs. Cynthia, wife of A. Joseph Linder, Mrs. Maria (Rudford) Taylor, Ruth, Mrs. Martha Locke, Gideon V., John R., Miles H., and Mrs. Laura, the wife of Thornton B. Perkins. The others died in infancy.1 |
