H. Juhling McClung, M.D., age 65, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, April 4, 2006, following a brief battle with cancer. He was the Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Columbus Children's Hospital for 30 years. He was a revered physician, a devoted and loving husband, a wonderful and caring father, dear friend and mentor. He was born February 27, 1941 in Gallipolis, Ohio, son of the late Alexander Keith and Florence (Juhling) McClung. A 1963 graduate West Virginia University and a 1967 graduate West Virginia University Medical School. He served an internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin, was a member of US Army Medical Corps from 1969 – 1972 and was a resident at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto CA 1972 – 1974.Member of Mifflin Presbyterian Church, where he was interested in adult Christian education and taught both special and a regular class. Also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He received a Life-time achievement award for Pioneer work on Rhys Syndrome and Pediatric Gastroenterology. He avidly supported Dawes Arboretum. His care and commitment to his patients and their families was unsurpassed. Throughout his 35 years of teaching the art and science of pediatric gastroenterology, he had a profound influence on many medical students, residents and fellows. In addition to his tireless efforts at Children's Hospital, he was a bird lover, gardener, a Renaissance man. His kindness and humor will be remembered and missed. He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, William (Ann) McClung of Greeneville N.C. Andrew McClung of Portland OR and Matthew McClung of Columbus, brother, A. Keith (Sandra) McClung of Baltimore MD; nephew, Alex (Brenda) McClung and their children, Weston, Madelyn and Spencer; niece, Martha Ellen McClung; brother-in-law, William (MaryBeth) Peters and their children, Kathryn Anne and Christopher. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Mifflin Presbyterian Church, 123 Granville Street, Gahanna, with Pastor Ron Lokhorst, officiating. Interment in Jefferson Township Cemetery, Blacklick. Contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation, 700 Children's Drive, Columbus, OH 43205 or the Memorial Fund at Mifflin Church for Children's and youth's projects, in memory of Dr. McClung.1,2

He is survived by his devoted mother, Helen P. McClung; brothers, William J. McClung and Andrew P. McClung; uncles and aunts, A. Keith McClung II (Sandra Foley McClung) of Baltimore, MD, William Bernard Peters (Mary Beth Dana Peters) of Vienna, WV; cousins, Alexander K. McClung (Brenda Olds McClung) and Martha Ellen McClung of Baltimore, MD, Kathryn Ann Peters of Denver, CO as well as Christopher Peters of CO, Weston McClung of MD, Madelyn McClung and Spencer McClung of Eldensberg, MD; aunt Mrs. Edward Gabbert and cousin Lucy Ann Deem of Williamstown, WV.
